How Books Work
How Books Work is a collaboration between two artists whose work has taken very different paths. Julie Chen is known for letterpress printed editions in which the physical structure of the book becomes a meaningful part of the content, and Clifton Meador is known for creating photographic artists’ books that explore the many levels of meaning possible within the codex format. What do these two artists have in common? An overarching love for the book form, and years and years of thinking about this form both through teaching and through the making of artists’ books. How Books Work is the end result of a process of discovering that very different routes can sometimes lead to a singular destination.
Printed offset in an unnumbered edition (of approximately 300 copies) and signed by both artists.
4" by 6" when closed, and opening to a footprint of 11" by 18". Presented in a folded enclosure.
